Charlie Sparrow, son of Henry Sparrow and Harriett Wortham was born on August 20, 1882 in White Oak, Oslow, North Carolina. He married Minnie Melvin also from White Oak and relocated to Montbrook, Florida (Levy County). Charlie was a man of God and many trades and many in his community reached out to him . His jobs as a field hand, shoeing horses and herding cattle often led Charlie to being away from his family, no shelter, just the warmth of a camp fire. Charlie and Minnie were proud parents of eleven children whom they provided for by doing odds and ends and raising livestock and vegetables on their farm. Four children remain of the eleven but numerous family proudly carry the Sparrow-Melvin legacy.

Minnie Melvin-Sparrow was born to the proud late Reverend Sie and Lizzie Melvin on September 12, 1895 in White Oak North Carolina. There she received her education and much of her upbringing. Minnie later relocated to Montbrook, Levy County Florida where she met and married Charlie Sparrow. To this union eleven children were born. She joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in Levy County and was a member of the Morning Star Pallbearers.
After the death of her husband Charlie Sparrow, Minnie relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1955. There she continued to raise her family in a loving and nurturing manner. Her love for God and the word led her to become a faithful member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Institutional Baptist Church of Orlando. There she served on the nurses guild and was a member of the adult Sunday school class.
Minnie Melvin-Sparrow was very loving, soft spoken and quiet spirited. She was firm yet you understood where she was coming from just by the tone of her voice. On January 25, 1993 our Lord declared her work complete, and she would join His heavenly flowers in the eternal garden. Her legacy continues through a host of offspring.
